With growing concern around building a more sustainable world, how are design professions to react? More specifically, how can designers improve the sustainable nature of a project through better lighting choices? This session defines sustainability in design and provides information to help specify products that meet those parameters. A more sustainable future will likely involve a complete reimagining of how lighting is applied in design. This course will offer tips to make the transition more seamless, with satisfying results.
OBJECTIVES
- Understand what comprises sustainability and why it is of growing concern
- See the 17 sustainable goals and the five categories where lighting can assist with relative ease
- Learn how to use passive reductions of lighting energy to increase sustainability
- Recognize how consumption must be reduced
- Learn how to reconfigure residential lighting for sustainability
- Discover the more complex efforts to come that will result in reaching ever greater sustainability goals
